User data deletion · updated 7 October 2026
Delete your data
You can delete your Catch Signal account and everything in it at any time. This page explains how, what is deleted, how long it takes, and how to remove our access at Google and Facebook.
Quickest way
Sign in, open your profile and choose Delete my account. Everything is deleted straight away.
1. Three ways to delete your data
A. In Catch Signal
- Sign in at catchsignal.com.au with Google or Facebook.
- Open your profile.
- Choose Delete my account and confirm.
Your account and everything in it is deleted immediately, and you are signed out.
B. Through Facebook (if you signed in with Facebook)
- In Facebook, go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Apps and websites, or open facebook.com/settings?tab=applications.
- Find Catch Signal and choose Remove. This also signs you out of Catch Signal.
- To delete your data too, open the list of removed apps and websites, select Catch Signal, choose View, then Send request.
Facebook sends your request to us automatically and we delete your data straight away. Facebook then shows you a confirmation code, which you can use to check the status. Facebook's menus change from time to time; if these steps don't match, look for "Apps and websites" in Facebook's settings.
C. By email
Email privacy@catchsignal.com.au from the email address on your account, or tell us your display name and whether you sign in with Google or Facebook. We may ask you to confirm it's really you. We'll delete your account within 30 days, usually much sooner, and reply to confirm.
2. What is deleted
When your account is deleted, we delete:
- your profile: display name, picture link, bio, home spot and preferred mode;
- your email address and the IDs that link you to Google and Facebook;
- your sign-in sessions, so you are signed out everywhere;
- all your comments, plus the comments other people left on your catch reports;
- all your catch reports;
- all your trips, trip logs and fishing history.
Deleted posts are removed from the site. They are not kept under another name.
Facebook requests when you also use Google
If you sign in with both Facebook and Google, a deletion request sent from Facebook removes the Facebook link and the details that came from Facebook (your Facebook picture and email address). Your Catch Signal account and posts stay, and you can still sign in with Google. To delete everything, use Delete my account as well. If Facebook is your only way to sign in, a Facebook request deletes your whole account as described above.
3. What may be kept, and why
- Backups. Cloudflare's database recovery backups can hold deleted data for up to 30 days before it is overwritten. We don't restore deleted accounts from them.
- A record of Facebook requests. We keep the confirmation code, the dates, the outcome and a one-way hash of the Facebook ID, so the status link keeps working. It contains no name, email or picture.
- Short-lived logs. Request logs are kept for about 3 days.
- Things we don't control. Copies of your public posts that someone else made (for example, a screenshot), and the information Google and Facebook hold about you.
4. How long it takes
| How you asked | When it's deleted |
|---|---|
| Delete my account (in Catch Signal) | Immediately |
| Deletion request from Facebook | Immediately, when Facebook sends it to us |
| Within 30 days, usually sooner | |
| Backup copies | Overwritten within 30 days |
5. Check a Facebook deletion request
Enter the confirmation code Facebook showed you after you sent the request.
6. Remove our access at Google or Facebook
You can stop Google or Facebook from signing you in to Catch Signal at any time.
- Open your Google Account's third-party apps and services page (Google Account → Security → Your connections to third-party apps & services).
- Choose Catch Signal and delete its connection.
Google doesn't tell us when you do this, so it does not delete your Catch Signal data. Delete your account first if you want it gone.
Follow steps 1 and 2 in option B above. Removing the app ends your Catch Signal sessions straight away; send the deletion request as well if you want your data deleted.
If you sign in again later, you'll be asked to allow access again. If you hadn't deleted your account, you'll be back in it.
