Updated
Every coastal area from Noosa and the Sunshine Coast through Brisbane and Moreton Bay to the Gold Coast is listed. Each area page lists every spot we cover with the same details, its boat ramps and the reefs and marks they reach, the rules and safety notes for the area and what is biting this month.
13 spots: 9 land-based (5 with a boat ramp), 3 more boat ramps and 1 boat-only. Peak in October: dusky flathead, summer whiting, snapper and javelin / grunter.
9 spots: all boat-only. Peak in October: snapper, cobia, teraglin and yellowtail kingfish.
GPS marks, ramps and downloads
Artificial reefs (8): Moreton Bay Marine Park reef positions, what each allows, GPX and CSV downloads.
FADs (20): fish aggregating device positions off Noosa, the Sunshine Coast, Moreton and Stradbroke islands and the Gold Coast.
Boat ramps (69): every public ramp in the areas above, with its bar crossing, tide place and the marks it reaches.
How we describe a spot
Type and access come from official open data (the original Scarborough spots from our own research, partly from OpenStreetMap); best wind is worked out from the way the shore faces; the zone is from the Moreton Bay Marine Park zoning layer (a guide, not for navigation); what's good here is the area's species guide for the habitats the spot reaches, with closed seasons taken out; the tide place is the Maritime Safety Queensland prediction the app uses there. Nothing here calls a spot or a crossing safe.
