What is a king tide?
King tide is the everyday name for the very highest tides of the year. In MSQ's 2026 predictions, each station's twelve highest tides fall in January, May, June, July or December, and all of those 132 come within three days of a new or full moon. Maritime Safety Queensland explains them on its king tides page and its highest tides list for 2026.
These are predicted astronomical tides only. Storm surge, onshore wind and low air pressure can push the sea well above them, so on a king tide watch the water over low jetties, ramps, beaches and footpaths, and move boats and gear back from the water's edge.
Every station's daily times are on its own page, from the South East Queensland tide times list.
