Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays fishing spots

Calm mainland bays, mangrove rivers and the island passages of the Whitsundays. Shore anglers chase squid, queenfish and whiting around Shute Harbour, Cannonvale and Conway Beach; boats work the Proserpine River for barra and the channels and fringing reefs for Spanish mackerel, trout and, in spring and summer, billfish. Much of the island fringe is green zone, and this is croc and stinger country.
